About the Exhibition Antony Gormley / Pavla Melková

Galerie Rudolfinum brings together world-acclaimed British sculptor Antony Gormley and Czech architect and poet Pavla Melková in a powerful creative exchange. You may know Sir Antony Gormley for his impressive Angel of the North public sculpture, which stands 20 meters tall with a wingspan of 54 meters (larger than that of a Boeing 757 aircraft) in Gateshead in the north of England. For Galerie Rudolfinum, he prepared works including the site-specific installation Orbit Field (2024) – a world premiere. In this exhibition, his evocative spatial installations and sculptures are framed by his drawings and the immersive images of environmental perception in the words of Melková’s poetic texts.

About Pavla Melková

Pavla Melková is a practicing Czech architect, but she is also deeply engaged in artistic literary and visual creation, as well as theoretical and pedagogical work. In the Czech Republic, Pavla is especially appreciated for the revitalization of Bastion XXXI in Prague, the National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrichiad at the Orthodox Church of St. Cyril and Methodius in Resslova Street in Prague or the memorial to Jan Palach in his birthplace in Všetaty.
